Recently, the amount of data collected and stored across the world has been increasing at the exponential rate. The data are being produced by various devices, sensors, networks, transactional applications, the web, and social media. Usually, the data are large scale and heterogeneous. The conventional technologies and methods, available to store and analyse the data, cannot work efficiently with such an amount of them. Thus, modern and innovative technologies and solutions need. In the lecture, Big Data definitions and their development history will be presented. Structured and unstructured data will be described. A place of data mining in the process of knowledge discovery will be discussed. The overall goal of the data mining process is to extract information from a data set and transform it into an understandable structure for further use. Big Data mining methods and problems will be introduced. Challenges of Big Data visualization will be emphasized. Methods of multidimensional data visualization will be discussed. Cloud technology-based solutions for Big Data mining and visualization will be presented.
